Located in the third largest and densest city in America, Chicago is home to a diverse and ever-changing population of people. Chicago is a unique city, consisting of 77 neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are further divided into smaller micro-neighborhoods, each with their own cultural niches and populations. Individuals coming to Envision Chicago will serve in several of these unique communities. Our ministries are located in neighborhoods impacted by higher-than-normal poverty, above normal issues of systemic injustice, limited opportunities for families with unique needs, and higher populations of immigrants and refugees.
In our neighborhood, community development revolves around the transformation of both the family unit and the structural needs of the city.
Family Unit: Envision Chicago helps care for and support individuals, children, and families. Our hope and prayer is that by engaging with the family unit, the larger community is transformed.
Structural Needs: Whether it’s a community clean up, neighborhood work project, or a local service project, Envision Chicago engages with the local government, school system, and businesses to help meet structural needs in the city.
The unique placement of Envision Chicago allows individuals to engage with a variety of languages and people groups. Our primary location is located on Devon Avenue and extends into the world famous business district of “Little India.” Little India is host to a vibrant community of Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs who live and work in the local business district.
In addition to exposing our visitors to the amazing food and unique shops of Little India, our team at Envision Chicago trains individuals in the areas of cultural immersion, cross-cultural ministry, evangelism, and church planting in this unique ministry context.
